(Most common problem) If you are accessing the system from a Windows PC that is behind a
proxy server, or you are running a Dial-Up Internet Accelerator product, then
you may have problems signing into the application.
These problems can be caused by multiple factors, all related to network
settings on your computer. Java Web Start, the technology used to start SolAce EMC, may behave
differently or have different settings than your web browser. Or, a dial-up internet accelerator
is in use and does not support the type of secure web connections that SolAce EMC uses.
The suggestions for resolving this problem are listed below. It is recommended that you try
each one that seems applicable. To "try" a setting you must make sure SolAce EMC is
closed, set the setting so it is in effect, then try launching SolAce and signing in. Make note
of what happens if it fails, then try another suggestion.
- Visit your Windows Control Panel, double-click on the Java icon
icon, wait for it to show up, then click Network Settings and check the
proxy server settings. If there is no Java icon in Control Panel then an
alternate (and even quicker) approach is to click on the Windows Start menu, click Run...,
type "javaws" and press Enter. Then, go to the File menu and choose Preferences.
- If the Java proxy server setting is currently None or Direct connection, but you know
or suspect you are using a proxy server, then try selecting the Use browser settings option.
- If the proxy server setting is Manual proxy, check if there is an Address field with contents
that start with the word "localhost". If so, you have a Dial-Up Internet
Accelerator product in use. Change the proxy setting to None/Direct.
- If the proxy server setting is Use browser settings and that is not working, try selecting
the Manual proxy option. Find the proxy server settings in your web browser and make sure
the Java settings screen has the same settings. In Internet Explorer the proxy server settings can
be found on the Tools menu, under Internet Options, then the Connection tab, and finally click the
LAN Settings button.
- If the proxy server setting is not None/Direct and the other options are not working, then
it is recommended to at least try the None/Direct option.
- If you are behind a password-protected proxy server then you may be prompted for a username
and password when Java Web Start is starting SolAce EMC. This may not be the same as your
regular username and password, so consult with your network administrator if you experience this.
- (Rare) If your proxy server uses a Proxy Access Control (.PAC) file, Java Web Start is not too smart
with .PAC files and will only find the first line in the file that has the word PROXY on it.
If you are not able to resolve the issue after reviewing the information above,
then please contact our support team and we'll do our best to assist you.
You
may be prompted to accept an SSL certificate. This will happen if the
server you are accessing is using a self-signed certificate rather than
one issued by a commercial Certificate Authority. Click Yes or Always when
prompted to enable secure 128-bit encryption for your SolAce EMC connection.
You will not be able to sign in if you don't accept the security certificate.
If you get an error loading the program that says "missing signed
entry" it is probably because an early Java 1.4 version is installed on your
PC, and there is a bug in some versions with verifying signed code from the Internet. Close
your web browser, then go to Control Panel and open the Add/Remove Programs icon.
Uninstall any versions of Java that say 1.4.0 or 1.4.1 next to them by selecting the
entry in the list and clicking the Change/Remove button. Then, reopen your web
browser and visit this web site again.
If you lose your Internet connection SolAce EMC will continue to function
but will be unable to save any unsaved data or load any new data from
the server. The best advice is to leave SolAce EMC running but not use it
until your Internet connection can be reestablished, and at that point continue
about your work or save and close if you are finished working in SolAce EMC.
(Unix/Linux users) If your web browser does not know what to do when
you click on the icon above, it will prompt you to designate a helper application
or save the file to disk. You need to choose the option to designate
a helper application, then tell your web browser to use a program named
javaws on your computer. Use your computer's Search for Files feature
to locate javaws, typically located under /usr/java, /opt/java, or /usr/local/java.
Mark your web browser's "always use this program" checkbox so you
won't have to repeat this step in the future.
